So head to HERE and order up and escape the heat or cold with three great reads.

And it’s a Heat Wave

January 29, 2009

The outside thermometer says 43Celcius and it’s our third day of ripping heat. The garden is wilted and so are we. Even the swimming pool is hot! The overnight temp didn’t drop below 30C! The roads are melting, the train tracks are buckling and today I am holed up sewing name tags onto clothes with a wet face-washer on my neck. Seeing as it is lunch time I am going to give into the heat and do something I never do…watch a DVD in the middle of the day. Afterall what else can a girl do in heat like this?…oh she could read :-)

Back From the Beach

January 25, 2009
rimg0027We’re just back from two weeks at the beach. It’s our tenth year by the sea and a great rest although I am always pleased to come home to clean sheets! This year we had four total fire ban days which means no toast, no cups of tea and no cooking at all. They’re tough…a girl needs her cups of tea :-)
This year a dolphin had taken up residence in the river which was very rimg00051exciting. Although you cannot go near it, once when we were out in the canoe, it came up next to us. We also had a Swamp Wallaby decide to cross the river. It made it all the way across and then tried going back again but was very tired. Wildlife rescue was called and they took it back to its home.

I went sailing, canoeing and I read and read and read. Started off with Maggie Alderson’s How to Break your Own Heart and Nicola Marsh’s  The Boss’ Bedroom Agenda.  Both authors always deliver a good read! I followed up with Debra Adelaide’s The Household Guide to Dying and then The Kite Runner. I’m now ready to read something light and entertaining again!

The school year looms so I better go and get organised :-)

Sun, Surf and Yummy Doctors

January 8, 2009

I’ve been a pretty slack blogger just recently, enjoying the relaxed holiday mode and a totally different routine. I  have been back at work this week. but that all comes to a halt on Saturday as I head off to the beach for a couple of weeks.

So while I am away I thought I could leave you with some eye candy aka yummy doctors. Please let me know of any I have forgotten to include as I am always on the lookout!

Enjoy and I’ll be back around Australia Day

Discovering Pod Casts

January 6, 2009

I got an ipod for Christmas and the boys are completely disgusted with me because it doesn’t have any music on it. That’s right…my name is Fiona and I am a Podcast addict!  Who knew what brilliant things were available on Podcasts?  I am very late to the whole Podcast thing but I am currently chuckling along to the Scared Weird Little Guys, making sure I don’t miss the next installment of Alexander Mac Call Smith’s Corduroy Mansions( aka a radio soap opera)…will William EVER move the horrid Eddie out of the flat…and being both entertained and challenged when I tune into Andrew Denton’s intelligent interviews on Enough Rope. And then there are the books!!

In the car, in the kitchen and bedroom…I’m podcasting everywhere. If you have a fave Podcast please let me know cos I am a beginner podcaster and open to new discoveries.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 3, 2009

As you can see, the Christmas Season caught up with me and I’ve been having too much fun, food and work freedom to get near a computer. After Christmas we went into the home cave and have played table tennis, been swimming and have attacked all those jobs that never get done during the year. Who knew that water stain on the ceiling that has been there for oh, say, 18 months, would only take two hours to fix? (!~!)
I hope you got in some relaxing times, some reading, as well as some ticking off a few of those odd jobs
