Lovely Sundays

March 23, 2009

Yesterday we packed a picnic lunch and headed up the road toward Victoria’s capital, Melbourne. A day in the big smoke for kids from the country. :-) DS2 was very keen to go up  the Eureka Skydeck 88 and walk ‘on the edge’. So up we went in a lift…88 floors in less than 30 seconds and there we were, on top of the world! He and his father went into the glass box that  moves out off the side of the building so you’re standing on glass looking below, above and out to the sides, but that wasn’t my cup of tea at all so I enjoyed the view from the deck.  Then we wandered along Southbank which was buzzing with street theatre and the Melbourne Food and Wine festival. Everyone was out in the autumn sunshine. The sunday market was happening …such a great place for birthday gifts so I got my niece something special for her day.

After lunch DS2 headed off to see Billy Elliot live on stage with his cousin…lucky boy! and DH and I met my sister and had a lovely time wondering around the Botanical Gardens. They were busy! We saw three weddings, two other big champagne-worthy gatherings, loads of families near the children’s garden and lots of couples hand in hand. I remembered my late teens when my BF of the day and I would go to the Botanical Gardens because they were free and you could cuddle up under the trees and daydream about the future.
Great to see people still doing that! I let my mind wander and tried to think of a new book idea.
All in all a lovely day!  Did you do anything special or delightful on Sunday?

Ohh! A Review!

March 9, 2009

tdchb-aus-cover4Putting your book “out there” is a bit like leaving part of your soul hanging and unprotected. Some reviews go straight to the bin but others make you smile and these two fit the smiling category :-)

CataRomance writes: Wonderfully written, sensitively told and totally absorbing, The Doctor Claims His Bride is another triumph for this wonderful writer of engrossing romantic fiction!

Full of the warmth, humour, pathos and detailed medical scenarios that have become her trademark, The Doctor Claims His Bride is a tender, poignant and highly absorbing Medical Romance that will tug at your heartstrings, move you to tears and make you fall in love all over again!  The PinkHeart Soceity Review.

So I’m feeling pretty happy!  If the reviews intrigue you then grab yourself a copy in the UK or Australia.

Same Book, Different Cover

March 5, 2009

March means The Doctor Claims His Bride is on sale! Usually the cover on the Australian edition of my book is the same as the UK edition so I got a surprise when I opened the mail the other day to find the cover flat of the Australian version of The Doctor Claims His Bride. I love the UK version…close up of a guy dipping a girl in a dance embrace. They look like they’re having THE best time. In the Australian version, the camera has panned out. Same couple but instead of head and shoulders we have the full picture. I thought Mia was wearing a top but it\’s a dress and who knew that Flynn was dipping Mia over a pool! I love both covers but am wondering if the added background makes the book more ‘pick-up-able?’ What do you think?

Exercising the Body as well as the Mind…

March 1, 2009

I don’t own a crop top but I have joined a gym! This is a major change for me but I was getting painful hips and shoulders from sitting too long and my usual exercise of a game of tennis once a week and a walk along the river wasn’t quite cutting it. So as well as making sure I stand up every half an hour for a few minutes I am ‘working out’ three times a week. I drop DS2 at the bus stop and then walk another 45 steps and I’m in the gym door. This works well as I have attached the gym visit to the kid going to school so there is NO WAY I can talk myself out of going. Believe me, I can talk myself out of exercise in a heart beat!

The good news is that I am not that unfit as I am coping well with the circuit but I am HOPELESS if I have to do anything special on the cardio bits. I can run on the spot and punch my arms but I fall in an uncordinated heap when they ask me to jump across the board or try and match my elbow to the opposite knee. Some things never change. For 20 years I’ve failed aerobics classes with the same problem which is why I am always amazed that i have a son who is a dancer. He takes one look at his teacher and just executes the move. If it was me I’d be two beats behind and end up on my behind.

Anyway, hopefully this 3x a week gym will not only help the hips but centre the mind for some great writing!  Maybe I should also pull out the internet connection…..
