Boy Wonder (12) and I have been in Sydney for four days and the Harbour city has been putting on lovely weather for us. Usually we go to the ‘big smoke’ of Melbourne for a weekend in December to experience a big city Christmas. The decorations alone are worth the trip and we see shops we don’t have at home. This year as DH is in Sydney we came to him and today we were blown away by the Christmas tree at the QVB..Queen Victoria Building.
As we stood in this glorious Victorian Sandstone building with it’s detailed mosaic floor and intricate stain glassed windows, we gawked at the 24 metre Christmas tree like the tourists we are. Adorned with thousands of Swarovski crystals and 60,000 lights it rises three stories and the base of the tree fills the space completley. This photo on the left shows the top part of the three reaching toward the roof of the third storey so there are TWO stories of tree below this point!!!
To give you an idea of the size of the base alone, Boy Wonder took a photo of me next to the trunk of crystals and the base of three is anotgher metre above me! The photo on the bottom left is taken from the third floor looking down which is less distance than the height of the tree. It was one of those things that had to be seen to be believed!
