Growing up in Papua New Guinea without television, Fiona learned to read very early. One of her first teenage rebellions was refusing to go on a hike with her parents because she was half way through GONE WITH THE WIND.Fiona grew up in Papua New Guinea and learned to read very early as books were THE entertainment.

As an adult, Fiona read her way around the world always trying to read a book that related to where she was at the times…The Brontes in Yorkshire, Jane Austen in Bath, The Godfather in Italy, Michener in Hawaii…and so the list goes on.

The real world intruded on her life and she was forced to pull her nose out of a book and earn a living. Having read all the Cherry Ames books and grown up hearing stories about her mother’s nursing adventures she donned a white starched apron and followed the family tradition. Her favourite areas of hospital-based nursing are Midwifery, Accident & Emergency and Theatre. But preferring to be her own boss she quickly headed into community health and health education, enjoying the buzz of preventative medicine.

It was when Fiona was on maternity leave with her first child that she had the great idea that she could write a medical romance and work from home. It only took her ten years to sell a book! Click HERE to read her writing journey.

Fiona’s an Aussie but she’s lived in Edmonton Canada, Madison Wisconsin, and currently lives in a much warmer place close to the Great Ocean Road, in southern Victoria, Australia. In 2005 she sold her first Medical Romance to Harlequin Mills and Boon. Since then she’s sold 18 medical  romance books,as well as two single title novels. Her medical romances have won aCataromance Reviewer’s Award and been nominated for the RUBY, Australia’s premier romance writing award,Her 2011 debut single title novel,Boomerang Bride  has been nominated for the prestigious  RITA®, as well as an ARRA and an RT magazine Reviewer’s Choice award. She’s also had short stories published in Australian Woman’s Day.

Fiona has given workshops at the Romance Writers of Australia’s annual conference, been guest speaker at libraries talking about romance and currently has a monthly column called, ‘Ask Auntie Fi’ in Heartstalk, the magazine of RWA.

She attempts to juggle her writing career with her husband, a rambling garden with 80 rose bushes and two heroes in the making. And just like her heroines she’s found herself a wonderful life partner who puts up with her when she loses herself in a good book. She’s training up two sons to do the same:-)

    • HI, Fiona! Lovely to hear from you. I have a funny story about how I came to be Fiona Lowe. When I got married, I kept my maiden name and I was Fiona Bathurst. That worked fine until I had a baby and we went to live in the USA. Immigration advised me to have my passport the same name as the baby’s surname as there had been problems getting into the US if the child had a different surname. So after being married a lot of years, I got a passport as Fiona Lowe. When I got to Madison, WI of course my passport was my only ID so when I opened a bank, got my drivers’ license etc, I had to be Fiona Lowe. By the time I got back to Australia years later, I was stuck. Guess what I discovered? There are a HEAP of Fiona Lowes! All fabulous women 😉
I am so thrilled you’re writing! Keep at it and keep in touch.
      Best wishes,
      Fiona
