Research Fun! (xposted)

Frog and Peach

The inspiratio for the Frog & Peach pub

Next year, there’s a new medical romance series coming out set in London. I have a book in it and I’ve had so much fun researching and drawing on my memories of London. The first film I can recall seeing was Mary Poppins and years later, I was very fond of watching Upstairs, Downstairs. When I finally got to London, I remember thinking I was on the set! Google Maps is my research friend along with Google in general.

I had the BEST FUN reading up on the Savoy Hotel. savoyOh, if those walls could talk! Fortunately, enough of the wild and wonderful stories and antics of the patrons were written down. Fred Astaire danced on the roof. It was a fave hotel of Marilyn Monroe’s and way back in the day, the rich and famous threw extravagant parties. Think Mr. Selfridge!

As you may or may not know, I have written a women’s fiction novel,  Daughter of Mine. It will be out March 2017 and closer to the date I will fill you in more on that. Right now, I have to start the second WF book and I’ve been researching. This took me to an artisan sourdough bread bakery.

BaDSCF5502ck in 2000, the Calverts started Irrewarra Sourdough, baking bread in historic stables on their western district property. From their first order of 100 loaves it has grown to baking 22,000 loaves a week as well as extending into other products. It was fabulous seeing all this glorous bread being made by hand. The boys and I were lucky enough to be sent home with some bread:-)

The research part of writing a book is always fun. It’s such a shame I now have to knuckle down and write the sucker 😉

Are you currently researching something? Perhaps it’s a h0liday/vacation? A new career? New Job? House? Or a new mattress…that’s my next job! Fill me in, I’d love to hear 🙂

Cover Reveal and November News!

WangthagipanaNovember 2015

Hello!

Are you as stunned as I am about the fact it’s November? It means it’s time to cut up the fruit for my Christmas cake and soak it in spirits for four weeks before baking it in early December. How did we get to this time of the year again so quickly? The first half of 2015 rocked along at a steady pace but since July, time seems to have vanished. The roses are blooming beautifully, which reminds me it is also exam season. My eldest son is about to finish his first degree and counting the days until he leaves for Europe. Lucky him! My youngest still has exams looming and is enjoying the start of the sailing season.  The book I’m working on is chugging along and my agent loves it so I hope a publisher does too!

Release Day: Truly Madly Montana! Medicine River series

Pop the champagne! Roll out the canapes!

Fiona Lowe ARRA adWelcome back to Bear Paw, Montana and another Medicine River story! It’s been a long six months since Montana Actually was released and today I’m thrilled to give you Millie and Will’s story in Truly Madly Montana. Oh, how I love this cover. Do you? This scene takes place in the book and that is Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park, Montana 🙂

As I write this, I’m in Outback Queensland, Australia,  and although it’s a long way from Montana, it shares a lot in common; big blue endless sky, small rural communties where everyone knows your name and if you get seriously ill, you need to be airlifted out, because the nearest hospital is a very long way away.  Will Bartlett is an Aussie doctor in Montana. He’s got a lot of experience in retrieval medicine– he used to work with the flying doctors– and now he’s working in Bear Paw.

If you interviewed him, he’d tell you he’s working in Bear Paw, because during the summountainsmer a lot of tourists get themselves into strife in Glacier National Park. The real story is a lot more complicated and more to do with something that happened back in Australia; something he’s trying to forget.

I’ve matched him  up with Millie. Do you remember Millie? She was heading off the medical school at the end of Montana Actually and now she is back doing her summer placement. Last summer she had a crush on Will but she’s over that now, because she knows he’s way out of her league. No, this summer she’s concentrating on keeping her diabetes under control, learning as much practical medicine as she can and totally avoiding making a fool of herself– she still remembers that one time with Will last summer and that excruiating experience doesn’t bear repeating.

As with all my single-title romances, you get TWO romances. The secondary story features Ethan, Bear Paw’s hipster librarian and Tara, the town’s deputy sheriff. These two are a case of opposites attract only Tara doesn’t trust herself to be attracted to anyone. This slow-burn romance challenges a lot of pre-conceived ideas.

I know I’m not to supposed to say I have favourite books but gang, Truly Madly Montana is one of my top 5 faves of all 27 of my novels. I hope you enjoy reading it  as much as I loved writing it.

RT Magazine has given it 4* 🙂 “Lowe’s storytelling infuses contemporary romance with delightful banter. Will and Millie are an adorable pair with infectious chemistry. Lowe’s knack for creating characters who are genuine, everyday people who readers can relate to is the strength of this delightfully modern story.”

Here’s the blurb and buy links 🙂

Summer in Montana brings heat, with a chance of romance in the new Medicine River Romance from the award-winning author of Montana Actually…

Sexy and charming Australian doctor Will Bartlett will do anything to help out a friend, even if it means moving to Bear Paw for the summer. Some small-town hospitality, and the uncomplicated friendship of his co-worker, Millie, is just the ticket to shake off the restlessness that’s been gripping him lately.

Millie Switkowski, RN and medical student, is home for her clinical rotation and she’s determined to make this summer so much better than last. She’s got a year of medical school under her belt, her diabetes is under control, and she’s kicked her crazy crush for Will Bartlett, who only ever treated her as “one of the guys.”

But when Will turns out to be Millie’s supervising physician, without warning the summer just got a whole lot hotter than either of them anticipated. With both of them holding onto thorny secrets, can they walk away with their hearts intact?

Truly Madly Montana is availabe in paper back and print.

Montana Actually Release Day. YAY! And a Giveaway!

Untitled-5I am thrilled to say that after the big wait,  today  is release day for Montana Actually, Book 1 in my new Medicine River series. I’m so excited about this new series and this book!

Montana Actually has garnered many positive reviews including a prestigious starred review from Publishers Weekly.

This is a single-title novel (ie it’s big, 93,000 words) and it features Bear Paw, Montana; a small town nestled under the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. Filled with ranchers, cowboys and a cast of townsfolk, Bear Paw is like most small rural towns in the western world, it has trouble attracting doctors. When Dr. Josh Stanton arrives from Chicago to work and to write down his student-loan debt, he’s convinced he’d going to be welcomed with open arms and a ticker tape parade. It doesn’t quite work out that way!

I matched fish-out-of-water, Josh with Katrina McCade, an almost 30 year-old woman Bachelorbuttonswho has spent the last 8 years living out east. Like Josh, her life hasn’t gone according to her plan and now she’s back home in the heart of her family, struggling to be the independent woman she’s been for years. On top of family expectations, sliding back into her ordinal position with her siblings, and concern for her parents, the last thing she needs on her plate is a clueless, city doctor.

With 93,000 words, I have the luxury of being able to write two romances in the one book 🙂 Beau McCade, Katrina’s elder brother has more reason than most to be the strong, silent cowboy and over the years he’s retreated from the world, preferring to spend more time with the cows and the dogs on the ranch than people. When he meets Shannon, the new diner owner, he finds himself reluctantly needing to get more involved in life off the ranch.

Have I spiked your interest? Where can you grab a copy?

And here is the blurb for Montana Actually!

9780425276952_Montana_Actually_CV_PROOFPassion burns under the bold Montana sky, but falling in love doesn’t come easy…

City doctor Josh Stanton and his sports car don’t suit the country but with his medical school debt about the bury him, Josh has to make the best of a bad situation. Adjusting to his new job and life in the middle of nowhere isn’t easy, but at least the views of the mountains –and one distractingly attractive local–are stunning…

After eight years away, Katrina McCade is back in Bear Paw for a break from her life, bad choices–and men. But when a broad-shouldered stranger bursts into town, she finds herself unexpectedly saddled with the town’s sexy new doctor as a tenant. Katrina doesn’t need a man to make her happy, especially a disgruntled physician. But try telling her body that…

“A keeper. It made me laugh. I loved each character and wish I coud vist Bear Paw.” Catherine Anderson, New York Times bestselling author of Silver Thaw.

Whether your weather is hot or cold, it’s always great for reading!

November Means Basil

IMG_0584As I turn the calendar over to November I am very aware the end of the year is coming at me fast especially as I always cut up and soak my Christmas cake fruit the first weekend of November.  My eldest son will be home from college/university on the second weekend of the month as the academic year is over. Can’t believe he has finished two years already.

Later in the month, my parents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary…wow those are a lot of years!!  We also have my husband’s birthday and and a music festival.  Garden wise, the roses are flowering and we’re busy planting for summer. Guaranteed, if I plant the basil it will bring the frosts back or a massive heat wave.  I have handed in the manuscript for Truly, Madly Montana so I imagine I will also be doing some editing. I’ve also had a sneak peek of the cover and it’s gorgeous 🙂
